PipeCraft™ GIS

-
The GIS displays the following GIS layer types:
- Aerial photographs
- CAD drawings
- Spatial points, lines and polygon shapes
- General text, layer, and
spatial queries extract features from GIS layers based on user-defined
search criteria.
- Specialized queries:
- Soil Information query identifies soil characteristics
of soil data layers in the GIS.
- Crossings query locates and geographically
references pipelines crossed by water courses, or cultural features
such as foreign pipelines,
roads or railway lines.
- Inspection Route query identifies and enables geographical
management of asset inspection routes contained in pipeline integrity
programs.
- Elevation
Profile uses digital elevation model layers to chart a 3-D representation
of pipeline assets.
- Tax Program query compares the status and geographic
location of pipelines with tax district boundaries to determine
correct tax assessments
on pipelines.
- The EUB Audit identifies pipelines within specified
utility board districts.
- Ability to digitize pipelines helps with
route selection or creation of new pipelines.
- Extracts data from third-party
GIS layers, such as EUB, and creates new layers.
- The identify tool,
map tips, measurement of feature lengths, and cumulative slack chainage
provide supplementary
information.
- The Projection Engine provides the following
functionality:
- On-the-fly re-projection of the GIS into over 1000 standard
projected or 200 geographic coordinate systems.
- Creation of .prj
projection files for shapefiles.
- Custom projected and geographic
coordinate systems.
- Custom datum transformations.
- Conversion of a shapefile of one
coordinate system into a new shapefile of another projected or
geographic coordinate system.
- Conversion of a geographic degree-minute-second
point into a projected point or the reverse operation and view
the result
on the map or save it to a shapefile.
- Exporting of shapefiles to text files.
- The AGRASID Soil Layer
data provides detailed soil characteristics and composition information
for the agricultural
region of Alberta, covering approximately 26 million hectares.
- The following
view manipulation tools modify the display properties of GIS layers:
- The
Shape Buffer tool creates a buffer of a set distance around a point,
line or polygon shape on a layer in the GIS.
- The
Map Rotation tool enables vector data, such as rivers, roads and
survey grids to be rotated from 0 to 360 degrees.
- The
Layer Transparency tool allows a selected color on a image layer
to be made transparent in order to view details
on layers beneath the image.
